Every once in a while, an idea comes along that is so monumental that its called revolutionary.  Black River's 3XL tournament league is one such idea.

In 2007, BR introduced a new format to tournament paintball.  The 3XL was focused on the dynamics of XBall but with a 3Man twist.  Due to the league length and cost to play, the year was moderately successful.  Learning from last year, BR is bringing back the 3XL format, but this time with some changes- we've learned from our mistakes and listened to our players in hopes of putting together something that will spread like a virus.  We look forward to seeing everyone back this year.

Logistics:

  • Team registration is $150- includes entry and air

  • There will be a Spring and Fall League consisting of 3 events each.  At the end of each League, a winner will be crowned.

  • This a 3 man tournament.  Teams will be allowed to roster 5 players and 1 coach.  The coach CANNOT sub as a player.  Only those people listed on your roster will be allowed in the pits.

  • Once a team is between the nets, they are on lock down.  They are not allowed to send or receive anything to or from outside the net.

  • Air will be supplied to each pit for each team.

  • Each game will be 3mins long with a 1min break (Time Out) between games.  The max time any team will spend on the field is 11mins (3min game, 1min break, 3min game, 1min break, 3min game)

  • There will be a 5min break (Intermission) between matches for change over.

  • Sideline coaching is allowed and encouraged.

  • Reffing will be supplied by the BRBoyz.  Each field will have a minimum of 4 refs.

  • All games on both fields will run from the same clock and start/stop horn.

Terminology:

  • Time Out- period between games (1min long)

  • Game- team vs team (3min long)

  • Intermission- period between matches (5min long)

  • Match-  matches consist of 3 games (each Match is 11min long)

  • Penalty- if a player is caught wiping, playing on, shooting hot, playing with a cheater board/setting, or otherwise breaking the rules, he will be sent to the penalty box for 3mins and his team will play man down during his penalty.  If the penalty extends into the next game, his team will continue to play man down. Penalties cannot extend to the next match.

Details:

  • 12 teams will be broken into 2 divisions for inter-divisional play (each division containing 6 teams)

  • Every team is guaranteed to play 3 matches with each match consisting of 3 matches (9 games total).  For each game win, that team will receive 1 point.

  • There will be a 5min long intermission between matches.

  • The top 3 teams from each division will move to semi finals to compete with the winners from the other division.

  • Semi finals will continue with 3 matches, each match containing 3 games.

  • Finals will consist of 3 teams playing in 2 matches, each match containing 3 games.

  • In the event of a tie, 1 player from each team will play in a 1min overtime (OT) game.  Once a player has played in OT, he cannot play in another one until his team has exhausted their roster.  A max of 3 overtime games will be played.  If a winner has not been determined, the teams will play 1, 3min game.  That will continue until a winner is determined.

  • In 2008, teams will accrue points at each event.  The team with the most points at the end of the season wins the grand prize.

Winnings:

  • BR will award teams finishing in the top 3 of each event, player trophies.  Sponsorship prizes will also be provided.

  • At the end of the League, if we have averaged at least 9 teams per event, BR will give away Championship rings.  Here is what 2007's looked like:

If you have competed in 3 or more ACTS, CFOA, CMS, NPPL or PSP events in the past 24 months, either on an Amateur team or as an Amateur player you are considered AMATEUR and will not be allowed to play. If we determine that this rule has been broken, the team's entry fee will be forfeited and all points accrued nullified. It is your responsibility to question your eligibility. Again, if you fail to do so and are found to be "ranked" AMATEUR, your team is out of the event and you lose your entry fee.
